CD Medical considerations for dental practice

Developing dental protocols for patients with medical conditions can be a daunting and challenging task. Yet all dental care providers have an ethical, moral, and legal obligation to evaluate and assess their patients in order to minimize adverse events and medical emergencies. In addition, while dentists cannot diagnose medical conditions, they can monitor patients and provide referrals for medical care. The CD outlines a simple and effective system for designating a dental patient’s medical risk category, as well as short, concise protocols for antibiotic prophylaxis and glucocorticosteroid replacement therapy. A special section on women’s health issues highlights special concerns for female dental patients at different stages of their lives. When used in the clinical setting, this CD provides dentists with the tools, information, and insight necessary to provide the most complete health care for dental patients.  This CD has been produced by Dr Michael Glick.  Dr Glick is a professor of oral medicine, Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, and associate dean for Oral-Medical Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, A.T. Still University, Mesa, Ariz. He also is editor of The Journal of the American Dental Association. I have amended the Swedish version of the CD to be suitable for Swedish dental care providers.
